ABOUT ME
When I was in 6th grade, I started taking home economics and took it every year of school all the way to 12th grade. In high school, home economics was by semesters - half the semester was sewing and half the semester was cooking. Cooking is my other hobby by the way. I love trying new recipes. Okay, back to sewing. I used my mother’s Kenmore machine and never really thought about buying my own machine. After I graduated from high school, I stopped sewing. I don’t really know why - maybe because life, college, a baby and did I mention life took over. I got married in 1996 to a wonderful man and talked to him about my lost love of sewing. He bought my first sewing machine and serger (White sewing machine & Brother 934D serger) in 1999 when we bought our first house. He even designated a room just for me and painted the walls pink (one of my favorite colors). I made all the curtains in our new house and used a serger for the first time in my life. Then life took over again. I went to grad school and started teaching. So sewing took a backseat to my life once again.
My husband and I went through a rocky time in our marriage - infidelity - which we survived and we are thriving today. Thank GOD! Then I went back to school for counseling, and started a marriage ministry in our home. My son was growing up and pursuing his dream of being a music producer. He took over my sewing space as his recording studio. My husband and I wrote two books. I quit teaching to work as a teacher recruiter. Then I found Instagram and a whole sewing community. I missed sewing. My husband bought me another sewing machine and serger (Brother CS6000i & Brother 1034D). I eventually started back sewing and was really rusty at first. I left my recruiter position in 2019 and went back to being a media specialist. I missed summer vacations as well. My son had also moved out so I was able to get my sewing space back. And as a bonus I acquired his bedroom as well which is right across the hall from my sewing room so I have two sewing rooms now. A pink room and a blue room. The blue room is my prep room (cutting, drafting, fabric, etc.). The pink room is my sewing room. It’s the room that houses my machines and patterns and where the magic happens.
Sew…I decided I needed a bigger platform other than Instagram to house my makes and process details. I also thought you might want to share in this journey with me. So I decided to start a sewing blog. In the future, my plan is to have a small online pop up store from time to time. Stay tuned! Thanks again for stopping by!
A little more… I married my best friend & biggest supporter, El Henry, in 1996. We have one adult son, CJ Henry (who you’ll see modeling my makes from time to time) born in 1991. We are a Christian household and if you’d like to know more about our marriage ministry - it’s God’s Union Marriage Ministry at http://godsunionmm.com
