M7348

Pattern Description: Misses’ Straight, Handkerchief, or High-Low Hem dresses
Pattern Sizing:
S - XXL. I cut a size XXL. This pattern runs a little small so I cut out the largest size, which ended up being a great fit. I’ve made this dress several times before and the XXL is a good fit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. I cut View C and as a sleeveless version.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very. You almost don’t need them except for maybe how to add the neckband and the handkerchief hem.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This is an easy pattern to make. It’s also a beginner (How to Sew) pattern. I am not a fan of the neckband.
Fabric Used:
I think fabric choice is everything for a project. I’ve made this dress several times and I’ve yet to find a fabric that I think is best suited for this dress. This time I used a brushed double knit striped fabric from Joann Fabrics. (I’m working my way through my stash this year). I am pleased with the brushed double knit but as you know this knit can be a bit clingy (it clings to the body a little more than most knit fabrics). I may try a Liverpool knit next time I make it. I’ve made this dress in ITY knit which was a little too thin (flimsy). I’ve made it in a regular knit which was also a little too flimsy.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The only alteration I made was using Simplicity 8379 sleeve band to finish the sleeves of this dress. Next time I’ll also use the neckband from S8379 next time for this dress. I am not a fan of the neckband that comes with the pattern. It’s a little too wide for my taste which makes it stand up. I like the neckband to lie down like on a Tshirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
More than likely. I’ve made it several times. It’s a TNT and a blast from the past so it may be out of print. But it’s one of my favorites.

Pattern Description: Straight Fit Basic Tee
Pattern Sizing: SM - 6XL. I cut a size 3XL for my husband.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. This was my second make for this pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very, very, very easy. This time, I added the neckband after sewing the shoulder seams, so I wouldn't stretch out the neck line.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love how easy it is to sew from beginning to end. I also love that I've found a pattern that I can match outfits with my husband. Two of his friends have already asked me for shirts and I gladly obliged!
Fabric Used: I used a Double Brushed striped Knit, which is a little clingy and clung to hubby's love handles. I used the stripes in different directions for the top and bottom of the shirt.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added twill tape on the inside at the back in the neckband seam. I wanted the neck to be sturdy and not stretch out of place. I also had a small slit in the fabric and I used stitch witchery and a small piece of fabric to create a patch.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I already have one cut out in blue.
