S9186 Coat

Coat weather! This coat was not an easy project. It took about two days (and one of those days was an all nighter until 5am in the morning to be exact) to make. Sewing takes time and patience. A project like this one can sometimes make you want to give up but I persevered. Then there’s the photo shoot. A lot of effort goes into a photo shoot, hair, makeup, accessories (i.e. jewelry, purse, etc.). Not to mention finding the right clothes and shoes to accent the make. I pack the car with the makes on hangers and get dressed while at the location. Trying to find a location and catch the sunlight is another ordeal. During this particular shoot, as we (hubby and I) headed out to find a location, it started raining. So we decided on the mall’s parking garage which would give us coverage from the rain and some light shining through. I hope you enjoy the photos and the pattern review.

Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Misses' Coat & Jacket By Mimi G Style

Pattern Sizing: 6-24. I cut size 20 View A.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Somewhat easy. Mimig patterns come with a video tutorial which was very helpful. I had a little difficulty with the collar.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I didn’t like that I had to fuss with the collar. I kept sewing it and taking it loose to get it right.
Fabric Used: I used a Polyester Wool from Fabric Mart Fabrics. It’s a lightweight wool that’s not real heavy. It also has a semi gauze feel to it. For the sleeves I used a tubular knit that didn’t have as much stretch as ribbed knit so I had to gather the upper sleeve to fit. The inside sleeve lining is a chevron polyester fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I used bias binding to finish the center back seams in the coat and I serged the other seams. Because I used knit fabric for the pockets, I interfaced them to give them a little weight and stiffness.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Maybe. I like that this coat is not real thick so it can be worn in the Fall as well.
