Birthday Suit! Ch. 50

I turned 50 on 12.08.2020! Yes, 50! I wanted to make an outfit for this day since I couldn’t celebrate with a party. I wanted to make a tulle skirt and faux fur hand warmer (you know, like Carrie from Sex & the City), but my faux fur fabric didn’t make it in time even though I ordered it three weeks in advance. I did make the tulle skirt; however, it was a little on the short side. Not that I cared because I have the legs for it. I was going to wear it with a matching top I made in 2018 from Simplicity pattern 8656 (see the last picture). Well the tulle skirt did not make an appearance. Instead I wore a classic wide leg pant from Hot Patterns #1187 and paired it with a cream top made from Simplicity 8656. The cream top was made in 2018 also, but the pants were a recent make. My bag is actually a jewelry box that I purchased from Ross and thought it would make a cute bag instead of a jewelry box. I layered my outfit with my rust colored shawl to keep me warm. I’ve included a few pics of my sewing machine birthday cake as well.

Pattern Description: Classix Nouveau Camera-Ready Culottes

Pattern Sizing: 6-26. I cut size 26 only because there are two darts in the back and a large pleat in the front so I wanted to make sure they fit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, somewhat.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Somewhat easy. I think I needed a little more illustrations, but I figured it out.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I am not a fan of pleats so I was going to leave them out, but the pants were too big so I had to keep them.
Fabric Used: I used a rust colored rayon suiting fabric I bought from Hancocks when they were going out of business.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t include the cuff at the bottom. I was going to but then I thought it looked better without the cuff.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I think so. I liked the fit and how flowy they were. It’s a classic pant. You can’t go wrong with that.
