Me & Flow

I’d never really considered a Wolf form because although they’ve been around for a while, they are also very expensive. Prices start at $2500 for a custom plus size form. Wolf has student forms that come in size ranges, for example 16-18 which are pretty inexpensive but they were no where near my size still. Wolf also has a brand called Superior Model Form which is a little less expensive than their main brand.

My Wolf Plus size Dress Form.

I’ve always wanted a dress form. Well not always…maybe since I started back sewing and posting pictures. I bought a couple of hollowed out hanging mannequins and an IV hanging post to stage photos but they weren’t plus size so most of my makes were too big and didn’t sit right on them. Then when Dress Barn was going out of business, I was able to get two “plus sized” mannequins and a pants mannequin. I put plus size in quotation marks because these mannequins were still not quite plus size. My yearning for a professional dress form was becoming more intense. I searched the internet for the perfect dress form in a plus size and found they were extremely pricey especially if I wanted one that catered to my specific measurements. Not to mention almost impossible to get since shipping and store closings were a problem due to COVID-19.

I finally thought I had found the perfect dress form on eBay. A size 20 and the measurements seemed to be similar to mine. The price was around $400 but when I placed the order, they replied that they had sold out of that size and all of their plus sized forms. Then they wouldn’t restock them until late August or September. So the hunt was back on. I was looking at PGM, Roxy, and The Shop Company as contenders. Then I came across the Wolf Dress Form website. I had heard of Wolf Forms before and knew that they’d been around for a long time. I even found a Wolf Form from 1948. I’d never really considered a Wolf form because even though they’ve been around for a while, they are also very expensive. Prices start at $2500 for a custom plus size form. Wolf has student forms that come in size ranges, for example 16-18 which are pretty inexpensive but they were no where near my size still. Wolf also has a brand called Superior Model Form which is a little less expensive than their main brand. The Superior Models usually start at around $900. When I spoke with Joseph (who was very helpful by the way), he went over the different forms and explained their shipping/packing protocol and expenses which adds another $250 to the price. But it is well worth it.

While talking with Joseph, he mentioned that they had a new custom plus size form that was made for someone who didn’t want it. I was intrigued. The measurements were B-44 1/2; W-41; H-51. My measurements were B-52; W-46-47; H-51 1/2. The hips were pretty close to mine; however, the other measurements were off. But you can pad a dress form to fit your measurements so I was curious to know more about her. This form was on sale for about $350, which is a steal compared to $2500. So I bought her! The shipping/packing would tack on another $250 and then add tax, she ended up being about $733. She shipped FedEx and arrived in 2 days in a tall box. She was securely packed in a ton of bubble wrap so she would not be harmed. I was very pleased with the service and shipping. Eventually, I’ll get another dress form when I am a size 8 😂. But for now, I’ll enjoy Flow (Wolf spelled backwards).
