The Tiffany Jumpsuit/Jordan Utility

This summer has been interesting to say the least. Most of us have been quarantined because of COVID-19. This means that most of us do not have to put on “real” clothes, including myself. My dear husband has been trying to get me into Nike gear for years. However, they never really had my size. He would order a Tshirt in a 2XL and it would look like a Small. He would show me shoes on the website and I didn’t really care too much for them unless it was a workout shoe. Our son worked at the Nike Outlet here in Memphis, TN and would try to buy me clothes and shoes but I was never interested. All that changed this summer. Apparently, Nike is doing better with sizing for plus size women and my husband racked up brownie points when he ordered me Tshirts, jumpsuits, dresses, bra tops, & sweatpants that fit! These staples have become my summer “uniform”. I’ve always been a fan of great jumpsuit but I don’t usually buy them because of fitting issues. Nike has an assortment of jumpsuits from their leisure sport jumpsuit to the stylist jumpsuit. But the Jordan Utility Jumpsuit caught my eye a few weeks ago. I had recently made The Tiffany Jumpsuit from Mimigstyle’s PDF pattern when I saw the Jordan Utility on the Nike website. The largest size was a 3XL; however, they were sold out of the larger sizes and the jumpsuit retailed at a whopping $150. So I decided to make it. I immediately thought about the Tiffany Jumpsuit and the versatility of it to use as my guide pattern.

I made the jumpsuit top portion like overalls and raised the V in the back. I lowered the crotch about 3 inches for a drop crotch. I added casing to the hip portion to mimic the utility suit. I also used webbing for the straps and inserted in the casing. Netting was used on the front and side pockets.

I ran into a few problems with this jumpsuit. First, I cut it way too big and had to take it in. Secondly, the front top section around the zipper was still too big and gaped open. I resolved that problem by undoing the top stitching and adding elastic to make a gathering affect. Overall (pun intended), this project was trying but I love the way it turned out. I hope you enjoy the pics.

Fabric: Pure White Stretch Bottom Weight 60W from Fabric Mart Fabrics (it was gifted to me a few years ago from @ReDpants Designs). Webbing & fabric netting was also used.
