Swing Dress

This dress was made as a mock for my wedding gown for the 25th anniversary vow renewal ceremony. I finally narrowed a style and pattern. I decided to go with my own creation - the swing dress. I wanted to do something a little different to the pattern by adding ruffles to the bottom hem. I also wanted to make it a hi lo. This mock swing dress was made from 100% hazelnut cotton fabric from Walmart. I cut the top part of the dress to make a bodice piece (to use contrasting fabric on the wedding gown - not this dress). I also added bias binding to bottom hem, which originally was not going to be seen, but my husband suggested leaving it visible. What a great suggestion that was. I love the cream contrast and the bias hem. I didn’t add pockets to the mock dress, a decision I regret. Overall, I loved the way this turned out. It allowed me see the changes I needed to make for the real gown. This dress can easily be paired with a denim jacket, leggings, and boots for cooler months.
