M7936 Jumpsuit
I didn’t always like jumpsuits. I was intimidated by them because of my size. I thought they made me look bigger or they didn’t fit right. I have two store bought jumpsuits that I actually like (one’s a romper) and they fit well. But normally, that’s not my go to. However, since being quarantined, I’m starting to like jumpsuits more and I even took a risk at making them. I’ve already made three and McCall’s 7936 is my third one! I love the fit of this jumpsuit and the look. I almost destroyed it when I snipped above and below the pockets but snipped too far into the fabric. I almost died. I quickly did a few zig zag stitches and added interfacing as a patch. It was good as new.
You can read about the modifications below. Enjoy the pictures!
Pattern Description: MCCALL'S MISSES'/MISS PETITE ROMPER, JUMPSUIT AND BELT
Pattern Sizing: XS - XL; I cut View C in XL and I made the belt for optional wear.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, except for the modifications I made.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the look and fit of this jumpsuit. As a plus size woman, I’m always unsure if a pattern will fit even when I follow the finished measurements. So I was very pleased with the finished look.
Fabric Used: Grey stretch denim from Joann Fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I wanted this jumpsuit to mimic a denim outfit with top stitching. I also wanted a contrast color so I used orange thread for the top stitching. I used an orange universal zipper instead of the invisible zipper that the pattern called for. Since I used a universal zipper, I had to add a triangular piece of fabric at the end of the zipper to take up the space an invisible zipper would not leave. I also added a zipper pull to the zipper to give it flare. For the belt (that is not included for View C), I added rows of stitching for a more contrast effect.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I plan on making another one in a Ponte knit.
