Winter is coming! Actually, it’s just the opposite. Winter is leaving - the first day of Spring is right around the corner. However, I was able to get in a mini photoshoot (before it got too hot) of this wonderful, quick and easy cape. I used a Faux Suede Sherpa in tan and dark tan for this pattern. The moment I laid eyes on this fabric in Hobby Lobby, I knew the exact pattern I wanted to use. The fabric was on clearance and I bought all they had. When I got ready to cut this pattern out, I thought I had a enough of the light tan to make the cape, but I didn’t. Then I thought, “I’ll just use the dark tan, no problem.” But I didn’t have enough of it either. So I decided I would combine them. The envelope contained two sizes L-XL (the other pattern sizes are XS-S-M). I cut out a size XL, but I probably could have cut a L.

This pattern is pretty straightforward and easy. As I started sewing, I realized that this cape would look better with the Sherpa showing in the seams. So I picked apart the back center seam (what a nightmare unpicking Sherpa!), and sewed it with wrong sides together. This allowed the Sherpa to be seen on the outside of the cape in the seams. I also did not include facing. There was no need for facing since I wanted the Sherpa side used for the collar. Lastly, I added pockets (you got to have pockets, right!). I sewed one of them on wrong, so once again I had to pick apart Sherpa. Did I mention this fabric sheds a lot, everywhere, all over everything and unpicking it is a nightmare?

I edge stitched the whole cape. The pattern instructions suggest an unfinished hem and edge stitching. I hope the edge stitching will control some of the shedding. Overall, I am well pleased! And it kept me warm during this chilly photoshoot.
